1. Minor earthquake strikes off the coast of Vancouver Island

Another earthquake has hit off the coast of Vancouver Island, around 178 kilometres west of Port Hardy. The rumbling happened at 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday and it was originally measured at magnitude-4.4. The final measurement called it a magnitude-4.0 earthquake and it caused no damage or tsunami risk.

2. Divers detect body and skeletons in flooded Indian coal mine

Crews are still working to rescue 15 mine workers who have been trapped in a flooded Indian coal mine, but a discovery on Thursday has dashed any slim hopes of finding the men alive. Indian Navy Divers have detected a body and skeletons with an underwater ROV. Water inside mines has a high sulphur content, which can decompose of bodies very fast.

3. Louisville airport will be named after Muhammad Ali

City officials in Louisville have announced that the city’s airport will be named after hometown boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The announcement regarding the soon-to-be-named Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport comes on what would be the boxing legend’s 77th birthday.

4. Trump signs law to give federal employees back pay after shutdown ends

As the government shutdown continues in the United States, the president has signed a bill that will soften the blow for some government workers. The bill will guarantee around 800,000 workers back wages when the shutdown ends. Federal contractors, however, will not get any back pay.

5. Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts is transferring to Oklahoma

Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts is taking his talents to Oklahoma. The 20-year-old announced on Wednesday that he’d be transferring schools and will play for the Sooners next college football season. Hurts was Alabama’s starter until he lost his job to Tua Tagovailoa, so the change of scenery will allow him to be the number one guy once again.
