Five things you need to know

1. China can build hospitals very fast

As the world’s largest country fights to contain the deadly coronavirus – which has already killed at least 26 people – it has shown off some of its organizational prowess. The authoritarian regime has pledged to build and open a new 1,000-bed hospital in the city of Wuhan within 11 days.

2. Huge crowds in Baghdad call for US to leave Iraq

Hundreds of thousands of people in the Iraqi capital Baghdad have marched to tell the US to leave their country. It was called by Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, who has long been opposed to the presence of US troops in Iraq, in the aftermath of the assassination of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

3. Dolly Parton spawns memes

Much-loved country singer Dolly Parton seems to have inspired a new entry in the meme dictionary. An image posted by the star on Jan. 21 showed her in four different photographs, each one tailored to a different app or website. Fast forward to today, and just about everyone has jumped aboard the meme wagon.

4. Trump set to appear at pro-life rally

US President Donald Trump is set to become the first sitting American head of state to attend the March for Life rally in Washington later today. The event, which attracts thousands from across the country, is held in opposition to the controversial 1973 court ruling that made abortion legal in all 50 states.

5. Egyptian mummy’s voice brought back from dead

Scientists have granted the final wish of an Egyptian priest by giving him life after death. Nesyamun, who lived during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses XI between 1099–1069BC, benefited from the wonders of science after his vocal cords were reconstructed so his voice could be heard again.
