1. No evidence of foul play after massive New York blackout

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed the media on Sunday, saying that investigators are still looking into a cause for Saturday’s massive blackout in Manhattan. He did say, however, that there had been no evidence of foul play like terrorism or a cyber attack.


2. Hundreds evacuated from riverboat in Edmonton

Firefighters were tasked with rescuing hundreds of passengers from a riverboat in Edmonton late Saturday night. The boat became stranded on the North Saskatchewan River with hundreds of passengers on board. Some were stuck on the boat for as long as eight hours.


3. Djokovic beats Federer in classic Wimbledon final

The Wimbledon final too place on Sunday and it was one to remember. Novak Djokovic ended up besting Roger Federer in what finished as the longest singles final in tournament history. The fifth and final set went to a tiebreak, tied at 12 games a piece, where Djokovic pulled away.


4. At least 1 dead after powerful earthquake in Indonesia

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck Indonesia on Sunday. The tremor hit Moluccas islands and at first there were no significant injuries or casualties reported, but officials have since confirmed that at least one person has died. 


5. Beto O’Rourke reveals he’s descended from slave owners

Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke revealed over the weekend that he’s descended from slave owners. In a contributed post to Medium, he wrote about his paternal great-great-great grandfather listing two women, Rose and Eliza, as his possessions. O’Rourke says he was just recently given documents that showed this information.
