1. El Chapo will be sentenced in New York this morning
Today in New York, El Chapo will be sentenced for crimes that include trafficking cocaine, heroin and other drugs into the United States. The Mexican drug lord is expected to be handed a life-in-prison sentence. Although he should be behind bars for the rest of his life, he’s also known for his daring prison escapes.

2. Float plane crash in Labrador kills at least 3, more missing
At least three people are dead and others are missing after a float plane crash in Eastern Canada. The Air Saguenay plane crashed into Mistastin Lake in northern Labrador on Monday night and rescuers continue to search for the remaining four people who were on board.

3. The British Opens begins in Northern Ireland tonight
Well, it begins on Thursday morning, but for those of us on this side of the world, the tee times will begin around 10:30pm local time. The British Open is the final major of the golf season and it’s being played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this year. The favourites to win it all are Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.

4. People stunned by Kellyanne Conway’s question to reporter
In the wake of President Donald Trump’s statement directed at Democratic congresswomen over the weekend, a remark from Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday drew the ire of many. Reporter Andrew Feinberg asked her about Trump’s tweets regarding the congresswomen and she responded by asking him, “what is your ethnicity?”

5. Turkish sailors reportedly kidnapped by pirates off Nigerian coast
According to reports out of Turkey, armed pirates have hijacked the Turkish cargo ship Paksoy-1 off the coast of Nigeria. The hijacking involved kidnapping 10 members of the crew. Turkish officials say there are ongoing efforts to safely retrieve the sailors.
