1. It’s opening day for the MLB
Baseball fans rejoice, it’s opening day! The 2023 MLB season gets underway today and all 30 teams are in action with start times ranging from 10 am PT until 7 pm PT. The Toronto Blue Jays will begin the season on the road in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. Alek Manoah will take the mound on opening day and first pitch is expected a few minutes after 1 pm PT.

2. Poilievre surpasses Trudeau as Canadians’ preferred PM: Nanos Research
The latest data from Nanos Research shows that Pierre Poilievre has surpassed Justin Trudeau when it comes to the question of who Canadians would prefer as their prime minister. The Conservatives currently sit at 50 points on the powder index, with the Liberals and NDP trailing at 47 and 46 points respectively.

3. Nine soldiers dead after Blackhawk helicopters crash during training mission
A crash between two HH-60 Blackhawk helicopters in southwestern Kentucky has claimed the lives of nine US soldiers. The tragic incident happened during a “routine training mission.” There were reportedly no survivors.

4. Netflix gets behind big-budget comedy series set in Nunavut
Netflix, APTN and CBC will all back a yet-to-be-named, big-budget comedy series that will be set in a fictional Nunavut community. The series will be written by Inuit filmmakers Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril. It will follow a young Inuk mother trying to build a new future for herself in a small Arctic town where everyone knows your business.

5. Pope Francis hospitalized with respiratory infection
Pope Francis is reportedly improving after he was hospitalized with a respiratory infection on Wednesday. The Vatican even says the 86-year-old is working from the hospital, where he awaits further tests regarding his condition.
