2. Long-hidden pyramids and settlements found in the remote Amazon
Scientists have mapped ancient Amazonian settlements, including pyramids, using advanced laser-mapping technology. The landmark findings help upend long-held beliefs that the area lacked complex societies until European colonizers arrived in the 16th century.
The settlements are believed to have been built by the Casarabe culture in what is now Bolivia between about 600 and 1,500 years ago. They successfully cultivated maize and other crops, supplementing their diets with protein from hunting and fishing. https://t.co/fdcqPSgTIh
