1. Fossil fuel extraction to soar this decade, UN warns

Fossil fuel extraction is expected to surge in the next decade, the UN has warned. A new report from the global organization claims that certain countries will drill or mine at more than double the levels necessary to keep warming at 1.5ºC.

2. Queen cancels trip after medical advice

The Queen has cancelled a trip after receiving medical advice. She has "reluctantly accepted medical advice" to take it easy for a few days, Buckingham Palace said.

3. US appoints first 4-star transgender officer 

The first transgender four-star officer in US history has been sworn in, prompting celebrations from activists and politicians. Dr Rachel Levine is now an admiral in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

4. Man arrested after phone theft caught on camera

A man has been arrested in Egypt after unintentionally livestreaming his face when he stole a phone from a journalist. The thief was later praised for his crime by some users on social media.

5. New Google phone to use AI

Google has announced that its latest phone will be powered by artificial intelligence. The Pixel 6 will also feature a 50-megapixel camera.
