Police in Montana were called to a rather unusual incident early on Friday morning.
They were told a bear was stuck in a home when they were called at about 5.45 a.m.
When they arrived, they found that a black bear had opened the door to the house’s mudroom and somehow deadbolted it after himself.
Finding himself trapped inside the home, the bear had then ransacked the room – before deciding to take a nap.
He chose for his bed the top shelf of a closet.
Cops knocked on the window after seeing the snoozing bruin, but he “was not the least bit impressed”.
The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office explained: “He slowly stretched, yawned and, unamused, looked toward the door.
“Eventually, deputies were able to unlock the door in hopes he would hop down and leave.
“However, their attempts were only met with more big bear yawns.”
At this point officers from Montana’s Fish, Wildlife and Parks turned up to help.
They tranquilized the bear and carried him out peacefully so he could be relocated.
“The homeowners were glad he was removed in good health, but won’t soon forget when this intruder came looking for the bear necessities,” the sheriff’s office added.
They also advised all homeowners to ensure they lock up while bears are around.
