It’s never fun being stuck on a closed B.C. highway during the winter months.

It happens all too often and you're usually left sitting in a cold car for way too long, but sometimes there are creative solutions to being stuck in the middle of nowhere.

A group of kids came up with a classic Canadian solution when the highway closed down around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

They grabbed their hockey sticks and started playing Canada’s pastime.

The moment was captured and posted to social media by Twitter user and fellow stranded motorist @pinandtonic.

These kids did Don Cherry proud by braving the elements to get a little stick and puck in, and the inclement weather with snow on the ground painted even more of a Canadian scene.

Eventually, the highway reopened around midnight, but there will surely be more opportunities to play hockey on a closed B.C. highway this winter.
