The Richland Police Department in Washington State received an unexpected response to one of their wanted posts last week.
On ‘Wanted Wednesday,’ the RPD posted about 38-year-old Anthony Akers, who was wanted by the Department of Corrections for failure to comply.
About five hours after the post was made, none other than Akers himself responded in the comments section.
“Calm down, I’m going to turn myself in,” he wrote.
There you go, end of story, right?
Well, not quite, because Friday morning rolled around and there was still no sign of Akers, so the RPD responded to his comment with their hours and even offered him a ride.
Akers politely thanks the RPD for the offer, but says he’s “tying up a couple loose ends since I will probably be in there for a month. Should be in there in the next 48 hours.”
Once again, those 48 hours elapsed and there was still no sign of Akers.
So on Monday, the RPD posted again, seemingly heartbroken about being stood up and asking, “is it us?”
For a third time, Akers took to the comments section to provide an update, assuring the police department that it was nothing they did wrong.
“It’s not you, it’s me. I obviously have commitment issues,” he wrote. “I apologize for standing you up, but let me make it up to you. I will be there no later then lunchtime tomorrow.”
He says he knows the RPD has no reason to believe him, but assures them that it’s for real this time and thanks them for their patience, adding a “P.S. you’re beautiful” at the end of his note.
This time, he comes through, but not without adding a parting comment to the ongoing Facebook conversation in the form of a selfie outside the police station.
“Here for our date sweetheart.”
