One of the most famous felines on the internet has passed away.

Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, died at age seven on Tuesday.

According to her owners, “she passed away peacefully” at home in the arms of her mom, Tabatha.

Grumpy Cat had encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection and despite care from top professionals, it became too tough for her to overcome.

“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough,” said a statement from the family.

“Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Grumpy Cat originally came into the limelight in September 2012, when Tabatha’s brother Bryan Bundesen posted a photo of the cat to Reddit.

The picture was turned into a meme and the popularity of Grumpy Cat took off, with millions of people scrambling to follow Tardar Sauce on social media.

Over it’s seven-year life, the viral cat made a number of appearances in T.V. shows and commercials, as well as public appearances at music festivals and on talk shows.
