A 14-year-old boy is dead after crashing his ATV in the Interior on Friday.
According to 100 Mile House RCMP, at 2:20 pm, officers, firefighters and the BC Ambulance Service responded to the 17 km mark of Tatton Station Road after hearing reports of an incident. Initial information indicated a teenager had a "serious collision event" involving just himself along a trail on Crown land.
At the time of the incident, the boy was reportedly quading with his friends. Others in the area began to help the boy when he injured himself.
"100 Mile Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance met a vehicle transporting the youth to hospital along Tatton Station Road, where a quick transfer took place and the youth was taken to hospital," wrote S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen. "Efforts were made to revive the male at the hospital, but these efforts were not successful."
Police have cleared the scene after completing their initial investigation. The ATV was seized and is undergoing further mechanical inspection.
Victims' Services are working with the boy's family as well as anyone who was affected by the incident. They are also offering help to any students at Peter Ogden Secondary School following the death.
