The BC SPCA gave us all something to be thankful for this holiday season with the latest update on a cruelty investigation.
According to the organization, 17 husky puppies who were found cold in the snow last December at an Interior property are now healthy and in new furever homes. These puppies were surrendered to animal control on Dec. 23, 2019, before they were transferred to the SPCA on Christmas Eve.
At the time they were seized, SPCA chief prevention enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty called it a "true Christmas miracle" that the dogs were rescued from neglect and brought in from the cold.
After being brought in, the organization held a public naming contest with a northern god theme. Some of the names chosen included Floki, Koa, Odin, Fiction, Kodiak, Koda and more.
For those interested, Floki was named after a Norwegian explorer who sailed to Iceland. The pup now lives in Logan Lake and is "loved dearly" by his mom and dad.
Koa was adopted in the spring of 2020. She learned to be a pack member with her new family and was given the name because she's a warrior.
Fiction has developed a love of hiking and completed her first overnight wilderness trip in October. She is said to be the "perfect fit for the family."
Odin, who is also known as "Arctic," is still small, though has changed much since being adopted in February. He enjoys going for walks and swimming at local lakes.
Like a true husky, Kodiak is always looking for something to get into and has a strong opinion. He was said to be very aloof and distant when first adopted, but now he is everyone's best friend and needs evening snuggles.
Finally, Koda, a formerly scared and nervous puppy, has transformed into a "happy, loving, hilarious dog." He has an older husky brother who he loves more than anything.
