Police in the BC Interior are investigating following an aggressive assault that took place in Quesnel this week.

According to RCMP, on Wednesday at 6:15 am, officers were called to an apartment building on Doherty Drive for a "suspicious occurrence." While searching the building, police found a man suffering from serious injuries.

"The investigation revealed three men forced entry into the building and assaulted the victim," said Sgt. Richard Weseen. "Two of the three men were identified by police and located and arrested within hours of the assault."

Eric Joseph Heidemann, a 32-year-old, was arrested at his residence on West Fraser Road after a brief chase. Joseph Brent Cooper, a 31-year-old, was also arrested without incident.

While processing the crime, officers located and seized one firearm.

"The two men who were arrested are well known to the police and this incident is believed to be a targeted attack. Investigators do not believe there is a threat to the public and the search for the third suspect is underway."

Both suspects have been charged with break and enter to commit aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, and disguise with intent. Heidemann's already had his court appearance while Cooper won't see a judge until Tuesday.

More to come.
