Police acted quickly and made an arrest just hours after a woman was dropped off at a hospital in Trail with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to the RCMP, the 33-year-old woman was dropped at the entrance to the emergency department at Kootenay Boundary Hospital shortly after 5 am Monday.

There are reports that the gunshot wound was to the woman's head, but police could not confirm that.

“The man who had allegedly dropped the woman off at the hospital fled before speaking with hospital staff or the police,” an RCMP statement explained.

“Later that morning, officers arrested a 36-year-old man in relation to the incident, who has since been released pending further investigation.”

Cst. James Grandy told KelownaNow that police also can’t confirm whether the man who was arrested was the one who dropped the woman off at the hospital.

“That is still being investigated,” he said.

The RCMP did say that the suspect and victim are known to each other and this appears to be an isolated incident.
