The BC Highway Patrol continues to investigate a motor vehicle incident that took the life on a resident near McLure on Wednesday.

According to RCMP, at 3 pm, emergency services were called to Hwy 5 following a four-vehicle collision near the Fish Trap rest area.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a northbound transport truck collided head-on with a southbound transport truck. Two other vehicles were hit due to the major collision, though the occupants received non-life-threatening injuries.

"The driver of the northbound transport truck sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the southbound transport truck was uninjured," said Cpl. Mike Halskov.

"A passenger in the northbound transport truck, a woman in her seventies, died in the collision."

The road was closed for nine hours as crews gathered evidence from the scene. Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services, the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Branch and the BC Coroners Service were all called to investigate.

At this point, the cause of the crash has not been determined, though weather conditions could have played a factor.

Anyone with information or video from the incident is urged to contact BC Highway Patrol in Kamloops at 250-828-3111.
