Last week, Mounties arrested a 57-year-old man after he allegedly posed as a police officer to gain credits from local stores.

On Nov. 20, Creston RCMP received multiple reports of a man claiming to be an undercover officer.

Mounties say the man convinced three businesses to give him store credit, however, he never returned to pay for the items as initially promised.

Police say the man allegedly produced a legitimate police identification card and business cards but is in no way connected to the RCMP.

The man, who was later identified as Felix Ference, was tracked down and arrested. He appeared in court and was released on multiple conditions.

The 57-year-old is facing the following charges:

“We believe Ference may have attempted or even been successful in getting goods from businesses in Creston and the surrounding areas. We know it is not uncommon for small businesses to extend credit to customers in more rural areas,” states Cst. Brett Urano.

“If you were a victim to this, or someone attempted to gain store credit purporting to work with the police, we would like to hear from you.”

Witnesses or victims can call the Creston RCMP at (250) 428-9313.
