The City of Merritt, in an effort to attract workers, is implementing a four-day work week for city hall employees.
The pilot program, which will be a one-year trial, will see city hall closed on Mondays while hours from Tuesday-Friday will be extended an hour and 45 minutes, to 8 am-5:45 pm.
The program was approved by city council on Tuesday, as it hopes to attract more municipal workers to the city.
Merritt is still in the midst of recovering from devastating floods and fires the past few years, as the hope for this trial is to see more workers retained and recruited to the city.
Additionally, the added hours will benefit residents by allowing them to access municipal programs before or after typical 9-5 hours.
The project will be reviewed at the six-month mark by staff and through public surveys to gauge its effectiveness.
The start date has not been decided yet, but it is expected to be sometime in the early fall.
