The BC Conservation Officer Service played the role of a hero recently for a deer that found itself in a difficult situation.

Conservation officers in Grand Forks received a call about the animal from a concerned citizen.

They had spotted the white-tailed doe caught up in wire fencing and unable to move.

The BCCOS quickly jumped into action, but were unable to get to the trapped deer in time.

“With dark falling fast, the deer somehow managed to pull the fencing out from the ground and take off towards the river, despite an attempt to remove it,” said a Facebook post from the BCCOS.

Conservation officers returned to the area at first night the following morning and with the assistance of a second call from the public, they were able to locate the doe.

“The deer was safely sedated and the wire fencing removed,” the Facebook post explained.

While the BCCOS got the job done, they thanked the public for being prompt in reporting the trapped animal, which led to the happy ending.
