(UPDATE: Nov. 27 @ 5:45 pm) – The Coquihalla is now fully open to regular traffic.

The vehicle incidents that caused the afternoon closure have been cleared in both the south and northbound lanes.

The travel advisory that was issued for Highway 8 due to an increase in people looking for a detour has now been removed.

DriveBC says drivers can expect heavy delays on Highway 1, south of Lytton, due to congestion.

(UPDATE: Nov. 27 @ 3 pm) – In the latest update, DriveBC says Highway 5 is expected to reopen around 4 pm.

The Coquihalla was closed early Sunday morning after a semi-truck became jackknifed and closed the northbound lane near Larson Hill.

Several vehicle incidents followed and resulted in a full closure of the highway this afternoon.

A winter storm over the weekend created hazardous driving conditions and drivers are reminded to drive with caution.

Just before 9:30 on Sunday, DriveBC reported that the northbound lane near Larson Hill was closed.

The agency says a jackknifed semi-truck has caused the closure between Hope and Merritt.

An assessment is in progress with crews at the scene.

People travelling across the Coquihalla should expect some delays.
