Handful of wildfires tackled in Kamloops Fire Centre on Saturday

The 2024 wildfire season is seemingly here, as crews were busy tackling wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre on Saturday.

The largest of the blazes is outside of Lytton and was spotted Friday evening at Skoonka Creek.

According to the latest update from BC Wildfire Service, the fire is out of control and estimated to be 30.24 hectares in size. 

Crews were also in the South Okanagan after a fire outside of Oliver was spotted at Dutton Creek on Saturday afternoon. 

The Dutton Creek fire is being held according to the latest update and is estimated to be 4.37 hectares in size. 

A very small fire was spotted off Chase Falkland Road and was quickly brought under control.

On the outskirts of Kamloops, the Cooney Bay blaze was spotted Saturday afternoon and according to Kamloops Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc, the fire is contained. 

The blaze was last reported to be six hectares in size and according to Uzeloc, crews remained at the scene through the night.
