Residents in the BC Interior are being warned about another Canadian Revenue Agency scam making its rounds.

According to police, callers from 100 Mile House have received calls from agents claiming there are arrest warrants out for the caller for unpaid taxes. The scammer then asks for personal information to confirm the individual's identity.

These requests included Social Insurance number, date of birth and more. The scammer also threatens that police will attend and execute an imaginary warrant if information or payment is not provided.

Most times, the scammer asks for payments of the "unpaid taxes" to be done through iTunes, Google Play, and prepaid cards.

"Just to clarify, the Government of Canada/CRA will not take or request payment of taxes in anything other than Canadian currency through a secure payment process and never over the phone," wrote RCMP. "Secondly, the CRA does not have the ability to process or apply for arrest warrants for unpaid taxes."

"The RCMP will not be attending your residence for CRA warrants as they do not exist. Please, Please, Please do not provide personal information over the phone and do not pay your taxes over the phone at all."

Once cash is transferred, it is nearly impossible to investigate the countries the money is sent to. Anyone who falls victim to this scam should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
