BC RCMP's North District Major Crimes Unit is officially investigating after police discovered the body of a missing Quesnel man on Wednesday.
According to police, at approximately 2:30 pm on May 6, officers and the Police Dog Service located human remains in a rural area 40 kilometres west of Quesnel. The officers were following up on information related to Louis Korkowski, a man who was reported missing or possibly abducted on Monday.
At this point, RCMP continues to investigate and Major Crimes has taken control of the case. They have determined that the circumstances surrounding Korkowski's death included criminality.
"We are working to determine the identity and the BC Coroners Service is also investigating," said S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet. "We recognize there are many questions and wishes for us to confirm whether or not these are the remains of the man, recently reported missing to the Quesnel RCMP. Our priority at this time is to confirm the identity and then to speak with the man’s family."
Extensive resources have been deployed to the area in order to move the investigation along.
