UPDATE: Hwy 1 reopens between Lytton and Spences Bridge following mudslide

(UPDATE: Aug. 13 @ 1:45 pm) – After nearly two days of closures due to a mudslide, Highway 1 is once again open.

The highway was closed between the junction with Hwy 12 in Lytton and the junction with Hwy 8 in Spences Bridge.

DriveBC says the highway opened shortly after 1 pm.

Drivers should watch for road crews as clean up efforts continue.


(Original story: Aug. 11 @ 5:10 am) – Hwy 1 is closed in both directions between Spences Bridge and Lytton due to a mudslide.

The closure is from Junction Hwy 12 and Junction Hwy 8 for 35.6 kilometres, DriveBC said late last night.

An assessment is in progress.

There is no detour available.

DriveBC said crews will perform a slope inspection “at first light.”

Photographs posted to the Skilled Truckers Canada Facebook page last night show a truck stuck in mud along the highway.
