Thompson-Okanagan sky gazers could be in for a treat over the next three nights.
According to multiple sources, aurora borealis activity is currently elevated and will remain that way for the next 72 hours.
On auroraforecast.com, it says that the aurora activity level will hit nine out of 10 tonight and on Saturday, while it will be a 10 out of 10 on Friday night.
In both cases, that means “favourable conditions for major aurora activity,” the site explains.
Meanwhile, the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ aurora forecast says that “aurora activity will be high.”
“Weather permitting, highly active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Iqaluit to Vancouver.”
Unfortunately, “weather permitting” looks to be the operative word here.
In the Okanagan, the forecast calls for clouds all three nights with a chance of showers or even flurries as well.
Around Kamloops, there is no precipitation in the forecast, but it’s still expected to be cloudy until the end of the weekend.
However, we all know the forecast is far from a sure thing, especially in this part of the world, so if you want a chance to see the Northern Lights, make sure you keep an eye on the sky over the next few nights.
People who did just that were rewarded when the Northern Lights put on an incredible show in the Thompson-Okanagan in late February.
