Police in Trail had to deal with a delicate situation last week when a man was experiencing a mental health crisis at a local school.

According to RCMP, on Feb. 12 at 8:39 am, officers received a report that a man wandered into Webster Elementary school, located at 395 Schofield Highway. The man, who was allegedly "acting erratically," wanted to deliver an impromptu "presentation" to the students.

When the man started to partially disrobe, the principal escorted him out of the building, which deescalated the situation.

The man was then arrested police. They determined that he was under the influence of a substance during the incident.

RCMP held the 34-year-old in custody until he was sober. He was not charged and will continue to be monitored in the community.

Police also recognized principal Brian Stefani for his bravery and professionalism in handling the incident.
