Merritt RCMP is investigating after a buffalo calf was illegally killed at a local ranch over the weekend.

According to Sgt. Josh Roda, on Saturday, the buffalo was discovered dead after it was shot with an arrow by an unknown suspect.

Evidence at the scene suggested that the crime occurred within a couple of days of the calf being found.

"Poaching is not tolerated in this community," said Roda. "Our local ranchers are business owners trying to earn a living and incidents like this have a negative effect on that."

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Merritt RCMP at (250)378-4262.
