Mounties are investigating the suspicious death of a 35-year-old woman in the Kootenays.

Brenda Ware was found dead 54 kilometres northeast of Radium on May 6 along Hwy 93.

Police are now asking for anyone who encountered hitchhikers in the area to come forward.

The RCMP said Ware had been in Didsbury, Alberta before travelling to Kootenay National Park.

She was driving a red 2019 Jeep Cherokee with the following Alberta licence plate: YPC 553.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw her between May 4 and May 6.

They provided the following description of Ware:

"We are hoping someone may have seen Brenda or her car prior to her death," said BC RCMP spokeswoman Dawn Roberts.

"We would also like to speak to anybody who may have encountered hitchhikers in that area or has dash camera video of driving through Kootenay National Park on May 5 or 6."

Anyone with information is asked to call SED Major Crime Unit's Information Line at 1-877-987-8477
