(UPDATE: Jan. 13 @ 6:50 am): Hwy 1 has been closed again following a vehicle incident near Golden.

Earlier closures along the highway, and on Hwy 3, were cleared last night, but not long after that a new problem emerged.

The incident on Hwy 1 occurred in Blaeberry late last night.

In an update this morning, DriveBC said the road remains closed in both directions.

An update is expected at 9 am.

(Original story: Jan. 12 @ 1:25 pm): Winter weather continues to wreak havoc on major BC highways.

A pair of new closures this afternoon will certainly throw a wrench in any travel plans into or around the BC Interior.

Both Hwy 3 between Hope and Princeton and Hwy 1 between Sicamous and Revelstoke are closed due to a high avalanche risk.

DriveBC said that Hwy 1 is expected to reopen at 6 pm, but did not offer any indication on when Hwy 3 would welcome traffic once again.

Hwy 3, of course, is the main route between the Lower Mainland and Interior at this time while Hwy 5 is open to only commercial and bus traffic and Hwy 1 remains closed through the Fraser Canyon.

DriveBC webcam images show cars lined up at Allison Pass on Hwy 3 and the same for Hwy 1 around Griffin Lake.

NowMedia will update this story as more information becomes available, but it would be wise to avoid these two routes this afternoon.
