A 60-year-old woman is in critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Osoyoos.

Police were called to a golf-course subdivision around 11 pm on Wednesday for reports of the woman needing urgent medical care.

They arrived to find her in medical distress, suffering from obvious trauma, and she was transported to hospital immediately.

Roderick Ashley Flavell, 62, was arrested in connection to the incident and has since been formally charged with aggravated assault.

"Both parties were well known to one another, police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no further risk to the public," said Sgt. Jason Bayda.

Flavell remains in custody at this time.
