(UPDATE: Dec. 6 @ 7:55 am): The Trans-Canada Highway is closed because of a head-on crash involving two large tractor trailers, Mounties have explained, and will not be opened until the afternoon.
It happened at about 4:30 this morning.
Both drivers were pinned inside their vehicles, Revelstoke RCMP said, and both required extraction by firefighters.
They were taken to Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke by medics and both have "potentially life-threatening" injuries.
"The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed until the RCMP Collision Analyst conducts the investigation, and the vehicles can be removed from the road," Revelstoke RCMP added.
"Following this, the roadway will need to be cleared by the local highways maintenance contractor EMCON and approved safe for travel by the Ministry of Transportation. Drivers are suggested to consult with DriveBC where they can determine when the road is likely to re-opened."
Mounties added: "The police would like to remind all drivers that roadways are constructed for safe driving at or below the posted speed limit. Driving to road conditions means travelling at a rate which ensures the ability to safely maintain your lane and stay on the road.
"All drivers are encouraged to slow down: drive the speed limit, (or the recommended or variable speed limits), and do their part to ensure that everyone gets to their destination safely."
Drive BC currently estimates the road will be re-opened at 2 pm this afternoon.
(Original story: Dec. 6 @ 6:46 am): The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions east of Revelstoke.
There has been a multi-vehicle incident at Albert Canyon Road, Drive BC explained.
Crews are on scene and an assessment is in progress.
No detours are available.
