A helicopter and multiple police cars were needed to apprehend a pair of suspects who were spotted near Osoyoos with a truck and generator that had been reported stolen from Kelowna.

Osoyoos RCMP got a report of the suspicious vehicle travelling on Whitetail Road, around 15 kilometres east of Osoyoos, on Monday.

The description of the truck and trailer matched ones that were reported stolen out of Kelowna on Friday, so police set up containment at Whitetail Road and Hwy 3.

An RCMP helicopter was also dispatched from Kelowna to assist from the air.

The driver of the stolen truck was able to evade officers, driving through a ditch and around a pair of police cars, but took the vehicle over two spike belts.

While continuing to flee west on Hwy 3, the suspect lost control of the truck and went off the road around 2km west of Whitetail Road.

The 30- and 35-year-old suspects, both from Kelowna, couldn’t escape the view of the police helicopter and were arrested without incident.

They now face charges of possession of stolen property, flight from police and dangerous driving.

In addition, the 30-year-old was also wanted on a warrant out of Vancouver Island for possession of stolen property.
