A 34-year-old woman is dead and her four children all suffered injuries in a head-on collision near Trail on Saturday night.

Emergency crews were called out to the fatal crash on Hwy 22 near Hanna Drive shortly after 5 pm.

The investigation determined that a northbound Ford pickup crossed the centre line of the highway and hit a southbound Chevrolet SUV.

Police said the woman driving the Chevrolet was killed in the crash, while her children, who are between the ages of eight and 14, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford pickup was uninjured.

Driver impairment has been ruled out as a cause of the crash, the BC Highway Patrol explained, but police are seeking more witnesses.
