Dr. Bonnie Henry took to the podium on Monday afternoon announcing 24 new cases of COVID-19 since she gave her last update on Saturday.
Between Saturday and Sunday there were nine cases identified, with another 15 being added to the total in the last 24 hours.
"There is still transmission of COVID in some of our communities around the province. We're not out of the woods yet," said Henry.
Currently, there are 224 active cases of the virus in BC, 32 of whom are currently hospitalized, including five in intensive care.
One new death has been reported since Saturday’s briefing, which took place in a Fraser Valley long term care centre.
Following protests across the United States and Canada over the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Dr. Henry commented that she was pleased to see masks and people standing a good distance apart in the crowd that gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
BC families had the option to send children back to the classroom as schools reopened for the first time on Monday.
Dr. Henry reported about a third of Kindergarten to Grade 5 students returned.
