BC reports 26 COVID-19 deaths over weekend

British Columbia is reporting 1,846 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 4,917.

There are currently 360 people in hospital, with 151 of those individuals in intensive care.

In the past 72 hours, 26 deaths have been reported bringing the provincial death toll to 2,081. 

From the new deaths; 10 were reported in Fraser Health, five in Interior Health and Northern Health, and three in both Vancouver Coastal Health and Island Health.


There have been four new COVID-19 outbreaks at health-care facilities across the province, and the outbreak at Joseph Creek Care Village in Interior Health has been declared over. As of Oct. 18 there are 22 outbreaks in BC:

The province has administered 8,060,794 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since December. 

From the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 89.2% (4,133,755) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83.4% (3,865,096) have received their second dose.

Of the eligible adults in BC, 89.6% (3,877,031) have received their first dose and 84.1% (3,635,581) received their second dose.
