British Columbia is reporting 3,798 new cases of COVID-19, which brings the total number of active cases in the province to 29,967.
Of the new/active cases, this is where they're coming from in each region:
- Fraser Health: 1,739 new cases (13,920 active)
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 840 new cases (9,100 active)
- Island Health: 566 new cases (3,631 active)
- Interior Health: 473 new cases (2,563 active)
- Northern Health: 179 new cases (750 active)
- One new case of a person who resides outside of Canada (three active)
There are currently 317 people in hospital with 83 of those individuals in intensive care.
In the past 24 hours, no new deaths have been reported. The provincial pandemic death toll stands at 2,427.
The COVID-19 outbreaks at Lions Gate Hospital, Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre and UBC Hospital - Detwiller Pavilion all in Vancouver Coastal Health have been declared over; which means there are 21 active outbreaks remaining.

From Dec. 28 to Jan. 3, people fully vaccinated accounted for 83.8% of COVID–19 cases, while those who are unvaccinated or only hold one dose of the vaccine accounted for 16.2% of cases. With nearly 90% of people 12 and older in the province now fully vaccinated, these splits are not unexpected.
In the past week, this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:
- Not vaccinated: 3,127 (13.8%)
- Partially vaccinated: 542 (2.4%)
- Fully vaccinated: 18,931 (83.8%)
Over the past two weeks (Dec. 21 to Jan. 3), this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:
- Not vaccinated: 84 (48.6%)
- Partially vaccinated: 5 (2.8%)
- Fully vaccinated: 84 (48.6%)
Since December, the province has administered 9,502,325 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
From the eligible people five and older in the province, 88.3% (4,402,649) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83.0% (4,138,255) have received their second dose.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 92.0% (4,266,177) have received their first dose, 89.3% (4,138,007) have received their second dose and 21.5% (998,164) have received a third dose.
Also, 92.4% (3,996,885) of all eligible adults in BC have received their first dose, 89.7% (3,881,820) received their second dose and 23.1% (997,224) have received a third dose.
