There’s no denying the impact that COVID-19 has had on everyone’s lives over the past eight months.
For healthcare workers, that impact is tenfold and has undoubtedly made 2020 a year of great stress.
On Friday afternoon, Alberta Health Services shared a photo that shows just how profoundly impacted healthcare workers have been during this pandemic.

The photo shows a doctor in Alberta making a heartbreaking phone call to inform a patient’s next of kin of some life-changing news.
“As of Friday, 462 had died of COVID-19 in Alberta,” reads the photo’s caption.
“In this picture, ICU physician Dr. Simon Demers-Marcil calls a family to tell them a loved one died of COVID-19.”
As the tweet mentions, Dr. Demers-Marcil’s call is one of 462 very similar, difficult calls that have been made to Alberta families since the start of the pandemic.
Canada-wide, around 11,500 calls like that have been made to date and there are surely more to come with around 57,000 cases currently active.
