British Columbia is prepping to slowly reopen its retail sector beginning on Tuesday, May 19.
To help businesses and customers navigate the next phase of BC’s restart plan, WorkSafeBC has released industry-specific guidelines for COVID-19 safety measures.
Those safety measures cover several areas such as store layout, greeting customers, product delivery, fitting rooms and more.

Stores will be asked to determine an occupancy limit and post it at the entrance prior to opening up.
Businesses will also be asked to refrain from handing out any coupons, samples, testers or flyers.
While fitting rooms in clothing retail stores will still be permitted, businesses are asked to avoid handing out place cards with the number of items to try on.
Curbside pickups or staff-assisted purchases should be done if prepayment is an option.
Employers do not need to submit a safety plan for review or approval, but WorkSafeBC prevention officers will begin a province-wide verification and inspection initiative.
