Seven retail cannabis stores are nearing the final municipal hurdle needed to open their doors in Kelowna.
City council gave the green light to send the rezoning applications for seven separate locations to an upcoming public hearing on April 9.

The move marks the first batch of stores to reach the final stage of approval from the city, four months after the first wave of applications were accepted.
The potential stores are spread out across the city on Bernard Avenue, Glenmore Road, Gordon Drive, Rutland Road South, Springfield Road and two on Harvey Avenue.
Last fall, city planners received 41 applications for retail cannabis stores in Kelowna, that number was narrowed to the strongest 15 by February.
If approved during the public hearing on April 9, the successful applications will still require approval by the provincial government.
City planners say the first retail cannabis stores are expected to open by early summer.
