For decades B.C. was at the forefront of cannabis in Canada.
Long before Torontonians could purchase cannabis in a store on Yonge Street, B.C. was the most relaxed province when it came to pot.
The post-legalization world has seen that role reversed for B.C., where over three weeks after legalization, only one cannabis store fully operates.
However, despite having a lack of stores to purchase from, British Columbians are still buying cannabis in large numbers.
According to the BC Liquor and Distribution Branch, a total of 42,352 cannabis transactions had been made in B.C. as of Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Of those, 29,669 transactions were made online and 12,683 were made in the province's only cannabis store located in Kamloops.
BC Liquor and Distribution Branch won't release financials, however, the cheapest product available in the province is a pre-rolled joint for $4.20.
If the baseline for sales is set at that minimum purchase price of $4.20, B.C. made at least $177,878 in sales in less than three weeks, however, the true value is certainly well above that mark.
The province has announced the first privately owned cannabis store will soon open in Kimberley, B.C.
