It’s that time of year again: property owners in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas will soon receive their Rural Property Tax Notices in the mail.

The tax notices are from the provincial government, as the Regional District does not collect taxes directly and does not accept payment of property taxes.

Rural Property Tax Notice payments are collected by the Province. Within local municipal jurisdictions, taxes for Regional District purposes are included on municipal tax notices and are collected from property owners within the City of Kelowna, District of Lake Country, District of Peachland, and District of West Kelowna.

Property owners in the two unincorporated rural electoral areas may complete their Home Owner Grant Application and make their tax payment, payable to the Minister of Finance, at most financial institutions. They can also pay through respective mortgage agreements, by internet or telephone banking, or by mail.

If residents are using mail services, they are asked to direct payment to the following address:

Surveyor of Taxes,

P.O. Box 9446 Stn Prov Govt,

Victoria, B.C.,

V8W 9V6

Property owners in the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral Areas with questions can contact the Surveyor of Taxes at 1-800-663-7867, and then request a transfer to 250-387-0555. Residents can also receive information via email at ruraltax@gov.bc.ca or by visiting the Ministry of Finance website.

To avoid penalty, residents are asked to have their property taxes in by July 2nd. If payment is made via mail, it must be postmarked on or before July 2nd.

Property owners in the City of Kelowna, District of Lake Country, District of Peachland, and District of West Kelowna must direct their property tax payments to their local government.
