Following a week of heavy rain, the Okanagan Valley will now experience a prolonged period of hot weather.

According to Environment Canada, a prolonged period of hot weather will begin on Saturday and continue through until early next week. The Central Okanagan, including Kelowna, North Okanagan, and South Okanangan, will be affected by the rising temperatures.

Temperatures are expected to soar well into the 30s, peaking on Sunday and Monday.

Citizens should watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include dizziness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, headache, rapid breathing, and an increase in pulse. Extreme thirst and dehydration can also occur.

If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, residents should move to a cool place and drink liquids.

Hot, dry weather can often increase the chances of wildfires. As such, residents are asked to refer to the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch website for details on fire status.

The other following cities, areas, and districts are also included in the heat advisory:

Fraser Canyon, Nicola, Similkameen, Shuswap, Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake, Boundary, West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake, East Kootenay, Elk Valley, North Thompson, West Columbia, East Columbia, Yoho Park, and Kootenay Park.
