Peachland kidnapping and sexual assault suspect identified

Charges have been laid against a 36-year-old man said to responsible for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman near Peachland.

According to court documents, Jean-Francois Dufour is facing four charges including forcible confinement and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. According to RCMP, Dufour met a woman through an online dating website and the pair had previously met on two occasions.

But, during this most recent meeting on Aug. 12, police say Dufour locked the woman in a vehicle and drove around with her for several hours before letting her go. Investigators said the man was driving a silver 2000 Dodge Durango with Alberta licence plates.

They also believe the pair travelled in the Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna and Lake Country areas during the incident. Dufour was arrested on Aug. 18 with the assistance of the Southeast District RCMP Air Services in Peachland.

Court records show that Dufour remains in custody and had a Kelowna court appearance Wednesday morning. He does not have a previous criminal record in B.C.
