The Regional District has started its spring water main flushing program.

Until the end of May, RDCO Environmental Services staff will be going throughout the six water systems that it maintains and operates, flushing mains Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Roadside notice boards will be put up before crews start working in a particular system area.

According to communications officer Bruce Smith, the flushing ensures water quality and removes any sediment deposits that may gather over time.

“When flushing is taking place, water pressure can vary slightly and there may be some slight discoloration in the water,” Smith explained. “Please check your water prior to use. We recommend that you avoid doing laundry when flushing is taking place on your system.

“If you experience discoloration, run the cold water tap until the water runs clear.”

The Regional District provides water to just over 950 properties in Falcon Ridge, Killiney Beach, Sunset Ranch, Star Place/Dietrich, Westshore, Upper Fintry, Shalal Road and Valley of the Sun.
