A pair of regional parks have are now open, just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend.

Work has been completed on the previously closed Mission Creek Greenway and Glen Canyon Regional Park and they’re now ready for public use.

Crews have raised the dike along five sections of Mission Creek Greenway, and the four kilometre section of trail between KLO Road and Lakeshore Road is now open.

However, the bridge underpasses at Lakeshore, Gordon and Casorso Roads remain closed due to the unpredictable levels of Mission Creek.

Part of the trail does remain closed though, from Hollywood Road to Field Road, due to erosion caused by the high level and flow of Mission Creek last week.

In West Kelowna, repairs to the lower portion of the trail and footbridge in Glen Canyon Regional Park are complete.

The parking area off Gellatly Road is now open for use as well.

Despite these parks being opened, the public is still being warned to be extra cautious walking near creeks and streams while the spring runoff continues to be a concern.

In addition, boaters on Okanagan Lake and other surrounding bodies of water are encouraged to watch for debris carried into the lakes from the freshet.
