A local cafe is doing their part to help the environment.
Bliss Bakery, which was started in Peachland and now has multiple locations throughout the Central Okanagan, is ditching plastic straws.
Instead, customers will be offered the choice of paper straws or reusable bamboo straws with their cold beverages.
“When we recently learned that the recyclable straws we have been using are not actually recyclable in the Central Okanagan Regional District we knew we had to offer some alternatives” says Darci Yeo, Owner of Bliss Bakery.
“We have all seen enough pictures of turtles with a straw up their nose, or floating islands of plastic, we want to be part of the change to make things better.”
For guests that really want to step up their game when it comes to being environmentally friendly, the bamboo straws are a great alternative to throw away straws.
They’re directly sourced and grown pesticide-free in a completely organic environment in the north of Bali before being crafted by Balinese artisans.
Bliss Bakery is sourcing them through SinFreeStraws, which is a non-profit organization based in Hong Kong with a focus on removing single use plastics from the environment.
For those not wanting to invest in a reusable straw, the recyclable paper straws are already a major step up from plastic.
