School District 23, home to all Central Okanagan public schools, is on the hunt for a new CFO.

After 22 years of service, Larry Paul is retiring at the end of 2017 to embark on a new opportunity in Airdrie, Alberta, the Board of Education announced on Wednesday.

“The board is sorry to see Mr. Paul retire, but is supportive of his desire to move on to other opportunities,” said board chairperson, Moyra Baxter.

“Mr. Paul has been an integral member of the senior management team of the school district and has initiated a number of programs that have enhanced student learning, whilst ensuring the district remains financially healthy.”

Baxter added that Paul’s leadership has led to major contributions in the construction, expansion or modernization of almost every school facility within the district.

Paul began his career with Central Okanagan public schools in February 1996 as the director of finance before advancing to his current CFO and secretary-treasurer position in June 2001.

“I have enjoyed and valued my time with Central Okanagan public schools,” he said on Wednesday.

Before joining SD23, he previously worked for the Coquitlam School District and KPMG Chartered Accountants.

He’ll begin his new position as Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations with Rocky View Schools in mid-January.
