A weekend ceremony is planned to break ground on the newest addition to the Peachland waterfront.

The Peachland Pier groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 25th, at 1:30 p.m. in Heritage Park.

However, that doesn’t mean construction is set to begin.

Following Saturday’s ceremony, the project will continue to try and raise funds to reach its goal of $400,000 so that construction can start.

That goal is over half achieved, however, as $231,454 has been raised so far, according to the project’s website.

Once construction, which should begin in the summer of 2018, is completed, the pier will be owned by the District of Peachland.

The major draw of the future pier will be its wheelchair accessibility and the fact that it’s specifically designed for fishing, the first of its kind on Okanagan Lake.
