This isn’t an honour to put on the city’s welcome sign.

Three of the Okanagan’s six municipalities have cracked the top 35 of MacLean’s most dangerous places list for 2018.

Vernon came in as the ninth most dangerous place, Penticton sits a little lower at 16th, while Kelowna is 34th on the list.

Lake Country, Summerland and West Kelowna, on the other hand, are right in the middle of the 229 community list, at 113th, 117th and 119th respectively.

Topping the notorious list is North Battleford, Sask., a town of around 15,000 located in west Saskatchewan, in between Lloydminster and Saskatoon.

It’s followed by Thompson, Man. and Prince Albert, Sask. on the list before the top ranked B.C. community, Williams Lake, comes in at fourth.

Vernon is the third most dangerous B.C. community on the list, while Penticton is sixth and Kelowna is 15th in the province.

The MacLean’s report ranks communities according to the Crime Severity Index, which is a Statistics Canada measure of all police-reported crime.

It takes both the volume and seriousness of offences into consideration.

It’s based on 2016 data, the most current available, which was released on July 24, 2017.
