Jodie Dansereau is a Lake Country artist who supports wetland conservation in Canada.
Her artwork was recently selected for Ducks Unlimited Canada’s national collection.
Her piece titled, Head Above Water, was one of 11 pieces selected from hundreds of submissions from artists across the country.
Dansereau said she was inspired after reading an article in a magazine.
“I was reading about a polar bear and her cub that had swam for around 22 hours, searching for ice flows, which in previous years had been there. However, now, none were to be found. As I read the article, in my mind’s eye, I brought myself down to the polar bear’s level, imagining the look of desperation, struggle and fear on her face,” said Dansereau.
"Dansereau will join some of Canada’s most prestigious nature artists featured in Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) 2018 National Art Portfolio," said Michaela Bell, DUC’s national manager of retail operations.
“I’m confident her painting will be very successful in helping us raise the money we need to continue our wetland conservation work.”
The National Art Portfolio promotes Canadian artists and highlights the importance of conserving natural areas that inspire the artists' work.
The selected paintings will be available in high-quality prints and the money will go towards DUC’s conservation projects, including wetland conservation, scientific research, and education programs.
Ducks Unlimited aims to protect wetlands as they naturally clean water, prevent floods and droughts, and help mitigate the effects of climate change by holding large amounts of carbon.
